ICE Deports 142 Criminal Illegal Immigrants in Houston Area Over Two Weeks
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officials in Houston deported 142 criminal illegal immigrants to Mexico between May 19 and May 30.
Those deported had been convicted of a total of 473 criminal offenses and had illegally entered the U.S. a combined 480 times.
Among those deported:
-
11 convicted child predators
-
8 documented gang members
-
1 individual who had entered the U.S. illegally 21 times
Other convictions included:
-
43 aggravated assault and domestic violence cases
-
48 drug trafficking or possession convictions
-
22 human trafficking or smuggling convictions
-
1 conviction for making terroristic threats
Notable individuals deported:
-
Alejandro Aguilar Vazquez, 45, Mexican national, convicted three times for cruelty to a child.
-
Luis Angel Garcia-Contreras, 40, Mexican national and documented Surenos 13 gang member, illegally entered the U.S. 21 times and convicted four times for illegal entry.
-
Benito Charqueno Zavala, 60, Mexican national, convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Bret Bradford, director of ICE ERO Houston Field Office, said, “Unfortunately, this is not an anomaly.” He added that in recent years there has been virtually no deterrent to illegal entry, resulting in millions of illegal aliens entering the country, including violent criminals, child predators, transnational gang members, and fugitives.
Ammon Blair, senior fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, emphasized that the 142 deportations represent only a small fraction of the estimated 650,000 criminal aliens currently on ICE’s non-detained docket, freely moving within American communities.
He stated, “Texas has become the frontline in this crisis, not only geographically but constitutionally.”
